It is sad to see that BBSs and Fidonet are dying.

I my opinion, the author Mr Scott Dudley, did the best that could done.

If Maximus is released as open source it will continue to provide
usefulness to many people.

Even in the worst case, it would still be valuable to programming students
who like to learn how things are done.

Conversely, this would open up the possibility for a keen programmer to use
the code, and for instance modify it, so it might be combined/used in
conjunction  with a *webserver* such as Apache run under Linux.

Permanent Internet connections are still expensive but are coming down in
price (here in Australia).  (Currently approximately $800 per annum.)

Maybe the *future* BBS is a *combination* of *webserver* and *BBS* ?
