The message from Gary Smith rises higher:
GS> Oh...and what's all this about Echolyn I've been reading lately?
GS> Some group I passed up, perhaps?
A favorite of mine. They formed in the late 80s/early 90s as far as I
know. They are a mix of Gentle Giant, Genesis, and Yes, but they have
enough originality of their own. The music is top notch, like the bands
I mentioned above, but the lyrics are much more down-to-earth.
GS> Are you familiar with Happy the Man? I had one of their records
GS> and gave it away after I taped the only song I liked ("Starborne").
Oh man, another favorite of mine! _Crafty Hands_, their seond album, is
a masterpiece as far as I'm concerned. I've got their first one, the
one with "Starborne", but I don't like it as much as _Crafty Hands_.
They had one after _Crafty Hands_ and that was it for the 70s. In the
90s, Kit Watkins, the keyboard player formed a label (Linden Music) and
has released some Prog acts on it. He also released a live recording of
Happy The Man which is really great. These guys smoked live! He's put
out some of his own solo material too -- synth stuff.
GS> Are you familiar with Crack the Sky? Yeah, I know, I know...they
GS> too don't fit the discussion structure of this echo, but they sure
GS> had some good song titles.
They get talked about here.
GS> GS> How about Banco? I got into them way after PFM, perhaps
GS> because they were also from Italy.
Again, I've seen the name around these parts. I've heard a few of the
band's albums, but didn't much care for it. Stuart Dubois has an album
with one song that's really good, though.
