| subject: | Re: What`s Worse. Failure to Pay Child Support or Taxes? |
#1 Priority, believe it or not, is Child Support!
Failure to pay your child support can get your ass in jail faster than
you can blink an eye - and with virtually no rights and no recourse!
The tax man is far mor leinient! Usually as long as the Tax man can
see that you are making an effort to pay and dealing with them in good
faith, then they will be patient. The key is contact the tax dept!
TALK to them. Explain your situation - even outline your income and
support obligations. Show them how you WILL pay them - and DO IT! If
you say you will pay $50 every 2 weeks, then DO IT! Whatever
arangements you come to - follow through. This will build trust with
them. As long as they will eventuallly get their money, then they
should be OK. Make no mistake - they will likely add interest or even
penalties. But as long as you do what you say you are going to do,
they will back off.
The family law enforcement officials are quite different in this
regard! Failure to make even one payment or even shorting a payment
without a direct variance in the form of a court order signed by a
judge could wind up having you arrested, help without bail or the
ability to talk to a lawyer for days, your drivers license and
passport can be revoked, the list goes on and on!
The minute you are in "arrears", you have become the hated and dreaded
"DeadBeat Dad", and will be swiftly punished!
It does not matter that you have no place of your own to live. It does
not matter if you are unemployed. It does not matter if you have no
food to eat! You should have thought about all that before you got
your now ex-wife pregnant! All that matters to the family "justice"
system is that whatever they have ordered you to pay is paid. And the
Family Courts have way more enforcement horse-power behind them than
even the TAX Dept!
It is a pretty sad day when you can get more sympathy from the Tax man
than from the Family Court system.
I'd get dialing if I were you! If the Tax man jails you, then you WILL
go into arrears on your child support! It will be the beginning of a
long and dark period in your life that you may never recover from!
move, Move, MOVE!
