The message from Mike Taylor rises higher:
MT> Howe is what makes the _The Yes Album_ for me, and of course started
MT> the definitive Yes sound. Kaye does manage to get by but "managing"
MT> not enough. For me, the Yes sound revolves heavily around Wakeman and
MT> Howe together. I'm not discounting the others, of course. It's just
MT> that Wakeman's silver lame capes were very important to me.
For me, I don't think the Yes revolves around any one member. It's
always impressed me that their sound was dependant upon every member.
This remained true up until _Tales_ when Howe and Wakeman seemed to
be taking more leads and White tended to just be a good rhythm
foundation. White could really do a kick-ass lead when he wanted to,
but his background playing was never as interesting, or as important, as
Bruford's.
LM> With something like _Relayer_, at least you can sit down for
LM> 20 minutes to listen to "Gates".
MT> "Gates" and "Sound Chaser." "To Be Over" doesn't do much for me,
MT> though.
Really? I love all of it. "To Be Over" is gorgeous.
MT> The new Rush album? Naw, that kinda stuff doesn't make it to our
MT> station, which is more indie oriented.
I keep hearing something from this new album on the radio on my commute
everyday to work. It's nothing.
