Easy answer, find the scope your netgear is set to use, reduce it to a
smaller scope of IP addresses then pick one of the ones it doesn't hand out
via dhcp now and set that address as the static for your samba box. That
way you are still on the same subnet but the IP address will not change,
everything else should work just like it does now.
Example, say the netgear is using addresses 192.168.254.1 thru
192.168.254.254 for it's scope now, change that so it only uses
192.168.254.1 thru 254.128 and set 254.200 as the static IP on the samba
box.
