Disneyland planners try very hard to make their roller coasters (and other
thrill rides) *different*. They don't really want to be the tallest, fastest,
or whatever. They want to give the public something that they won't get at
other amusement parks - entertainment - while still giving the public the
thrills that they are seeking. There are some really good books about the
creation of Disneyland and why things are the way they are, there. Hmmm...now
there's a good research project for a high schooler.....
