So Anyway, Allan Joffe turned to All and babbled:
AJ> I had a recent experience with a physician who seemed to believe in
AJ> the old fable that he was a member of the old "I am God" line of
AJ> reasoning. Taking it as long as I could, I politely told him that he
AJ> was no different from a plumber, an electrician or a washer repair
AJ> person in that he was available for hire to ply his services in behalf
AJ> of the customer. Then I politely left. I suppose that Arrogance 101
AJ> is part of the medical school education but it leaves me cold.
With all due respect, I think you're missing the big picture. I don't
doubt that you encountered what you consider to be "arrogance", but
it's not fair comparing a physician to a plumber, electrician, or
general trade person. Physicians go through 8 years or more of school,
several years of a tough residency, and are regulated much more than
the above mentioned trades. And they have more to lose if the
performance of their job is less than adequate.
So don't go lumping all physicians into one category just because you
had a bad experience. If one didn't work for you, try another.
What was his "I am God" line of reasoning?

Dave
