subject: Why Arj?

Hi Robert,
-> This is true. Although I always heard that there was an OS/2 version
-> of ARJ available. Maybe I was wrong in this assumption.
AFAIK there was no official ARJ for OS/2. There was an UNARJ Demo for
OS/2 released by Robert Jung (with source) and this source was slightly
modified by Kerry Flint to perform better with subdirectories (if I
recall). Anyhow Kerry's is basically Robert's code with some improved
functionality.
There is an multi-format archiver for OS/2 called X1 (I think there
are Dos, Win, Unix versions too) which packed many formats including
ARJ very well. I never tried it with multiiple volumes though, so cannot
say if it supports that feature. It's written by Stig Valentini. The
last version I have was 0.94 beta, filename X1OS294H.ZIP, but it may
well have been updated from then.
Rgds,
Stewart
