Hello, Rick!
It is so good to find you and a few others again after our move to Houston,
Tx. Believe I did tell you we were moving. Nightmare trying to 1) find the
right BBS's (ones which would carry the conf's I was on), 2) then had
problems w/my offline reader (tried to use BlueWave w/disastrous results).
Although I've now found Vfalsac & a few others, I have not found Child Abuse
Issues, but am encouraged that I'll soon have it through a BBS I just joined.
All sorts out in time. Well...except for offline reader problems--a few
glitches left.
I just copied almost all your postings in this last d/l. You are doing such
a valuable service for all. Today--only today--I am somewhat resuming the
search I began from NV.
Would you mind giving me some input? My daughter called today from Carson
prison. I think I've told you some about her case. We still await the court's
decision on her appeal. A friend of hers (inside) had her verdict overturned
unanimously, but the DA in that case is still deciding to refile or not, so
this woman (let's call her S.) has been back in county jail for months now.
S.is innocent. A 2nd woman inside (we'll call her Deb) just had her case
ver
turned--but Deb -did- kill her husband (overturned because of trial errors.)
Deb was able to immediately get out of any further incarceration while
aiting
for a new trial, *on her own recognizance*! (O.R.)
We believe my daughter's case will be overturned either wholly or partly. We
also believe the new DA may not reprosecute, because he wanted to testify for
her against his old Boss's will (ex-DA).
However, if K's (my daughter) case is partly overturned, & we need a new law-
yer, do you think we should be looking for one now? That's the basic
uestion.
If a new trial is ordered on part of the charge, K fears spending months in
jail. We wonder if a new lawyer could argue for an O.R. for her? Also, we
wonder if she needs a lawyer while the State Sup. Ct. deliberates? She has
an atty of record, the one who took over by default when her trial & appeal
lawyer retired, but he's an abrasive, pessimistic guy, and none of us relate
to him well. Indeed, he told us that we'd never be able to change judges
(before trial) because that "just doesn't happen in Reno." (Lately I've
clipped news stories of just that happening--from a Reno paper)
I think you see why and what we're asking. Any thoughts? If my info is too
sketchy, I'll be glad to fill in.
Again, Rick, I'm so pleased to find you again. "Relieved" expresses it more!
Blessings from Clara; you already have them from God.
