You know, if you guys would use a little logic and try to read with some
comprehension instead of constantly carping on a minor problem like little
kids, you would understand where the Sysop deal/upgrade deal benefits both
the sysop and the non sysop.
The last time I saw the offer, Hayes was offering the modem at a price of
$199.00 as a trade in to the newer modem OR as a Sysop Special.
So, there are 2 deals here:
First-
You send them $199 and your old v.34 modem, and they will send you a new
modem.
Final result: You have sent into Hayes a package containing 1 modem and a
check for $199.00, and you got one modem back.
You now have one NEW Hayes Optima Business modem.
This is valid for everyone who owns an Optima v.34 modem, regardles of
whether you are a Sysop or not.
The second offer:
Sysops can send in $199.00 (without a modem) and recieve the new unit.
Hayes sends you a new Business Modem.
End result: You have TWO modems -- The new Business modem AND the "old" v.34
in your posession.
You can either sell the old modem to someone else, give it away as a gift, or
keep it as a backup for emergenciess.
Sounds reasonable to me.
But then I have been using the Hayaes Optima 28.8 since it first came out.
I also got one of the first free field upgradesss when it went to v.34.
Currently I use it to import the entire fidonet backbone and filebone for a
portion of my net, and it is performong flawlessly.
