I had to get that one on the Holmes method.. Knew it wasn't this one
or the other one, so it had to be THAT one... and it was. Had there
been a fourth choice I might have been in trouble.

Local sources there tell me that Chavez still has a lot of support in
the lower echelons of society and the military, the people who
actually voted for him when he was elected (which he was, not that
the US press sees fit to mention that often) and that the reason for
a lot of the "get rid of him NOW" rush is that several new laws kick
in on 1 January which will REALLY annoy the monied classes... things
like land reform, social services, progressive taxation, like that...
If he doesn't resign before the end of the year, I'm expecting at
least one more serious armed coup attempt and possibly a series of
assassination attempts... and if he IS forced out, there are a lot of
South American analysts expecting a civil war.
Especially if the Iraq thing starts putting a serious crimp in oil
supply at the same time, I think we may see the old Iran-Contra crew
funding yet another "democratic reform" in Latin America. Funny how
democracy only works there when the right people win.... So it's
gonna be interesting.

Clayton
