Parapharased from my recent data communications lecture at university...

Baud Rate is the rate at which the signal changes from 1 to 0 etc....

Bits per Sec (bps) is the rate at which bits are transferred..

It is possible to encode in such a way that you can send more bits, to the baud..

ie: your 14.400 kbps connection is riding on a 2400 baud carrier... I
believe 28.8 is the same...
