Okay, I have this old unix workstation here. i'm not sure about too much
of it, but i know it's a 80186 CPU with 8 megs of RAM. Anyway, it was
running a graphical unix OS called CLIX UNIX and someone apparently
overwrote the boot sectors or the first bit of the hard drive by writing an
image of a 360k floppy disk to it with something like dd, perhaps. i can
just get into this weird bootup prompt which lets me type some commands but
it's not an OS and it's not UNIX, and there are no files. it's something
that is booting right out of ROM. I don't know how to use the commandset.
I want to be able to reformat the hard drive so i can reinstall some sort
of unix os on it. It's an Intergraph machine, but there's nothing on their
site about this old box, to my knowledge. It's got an ethernet card on the
back and a 5.25 floppy disk drive. Linux would be the best, but I don't
know how to get the hard drive set up or how to get it to boot from a
floppy. The monitor is 19 inches or more and is color, and it is attached
directly to the machine case, which is a VERY heavy desktop case.
Can someone give any help to me with this? :)
