Hello Edward, EL> What files must I download from http://www.debin.org ? You'll need to download the files from their "disks-i386" directory to start off with. You need seven disks: The rescue disk The device driver disk The base installation, disks 1-5. Sorry I can't remember the filenames, but they should be identified by description at Debian's web site. You'll also need "Rawrite" in order to write these zipped files onto floppy disks. And you'll need a blank floppy disk to use as a boot disk. Once you have this installed, you'll have a very basic working Linux system. From this point you can install packages from .deb (Debian package) files and .tar.gz's. You can also use the "dselect" program to select packages to install; this keeps track of dependencies for you, and is also capable of installing packages directly from ftp sites (you'll need to download PPP for this).
