... BJ> changes around or to the URL in the HTML mode of word, then you BJ> have to re-edit the URL again.... [Microsoft Word edits BJ> URLs to fully qualified URL's and not relative URLs.] RJT> Arg. I use a bloody text editor, no more... There are other options.... At work we had Word, so I didn't need to request another package... If using Linux, I believe there are better solutions available for free.... BJ> Of course one could always look up the current HTML standard on the BJ> web and hand write the ASCII text file from scratch, but that is a BJ> little more work, especially if you aren't familar with the HTML BJ> tags.... RJT> You don't need that many of them. For a simple page, hand generated, correct. My MS Word method listed above will have a fair amount of bloat, but also keeps you from needing to look up the HTML tags most of the time.... And you can go into a ASCII text mode view to "correct" what MS did that you don't like.... BJ> Yes. I'm connected 24/7 using BinkP, Vmodem and Telnet to the BJ> internet, currently with a cable modem. The telnet URL would be BJ> "telnet://tophat.darktech.org". If you type that URL into your BJ> web browser (without the quotes), it will open a termial window BJ> telnet session to my system. While this allows you to look at my BJ> BBS, and respond there, unless you have configured a different BJ> telnet program from the standard, you can't download files because BJ> standard telnet doesn't understand XModem or the like. :( RJT> Hm. I used to log into a local system that dropped me RJT> at a login prompt. There it was possible to RJT> download stuff, using zmodem even, with my term RJT> program. I suppose that it might also have been RJT> possible to put something together with ftp, but I RJT> didn't know from ftp in those days. As I said, the "normal" telnet program does not support zmodem downloads. There are other telnet options out there that do support various download protocols. With those programs you could download the files from my system via telnet. Now if you were on a Unix based system, you could drop to a shell prompt from within telnet and startup kermit or later a version of zmodem to perform the transfers.... I haven't seen the equivalient of this documented for Windows based systems. It doesn't work in a regular DOS environment due to the need for multi-tasking to pull this off..... Take care.....
