BEFORE the CIA got in control via George Bush, we had a sane drug
policy. It was called treatment. One of the first things that the
Reagan/Bush era did was to slash treatment funds and give the money to
corrections instead, initiating a vicious modern day witchhunt in the
process. The ancestors of these men tried to cure alcoholism in New
England by putting addicts in stocks on public display; they tried to
cure drug addiction AND alcoholism by locking up addicts without any
treatment for their disease!
That didn't work.
And slashing the former funds for prevention with children, eliminating
one treatment program for children after another has produced the
results we have today.
This cry for marijuana to be legalized is the final result.....something
like turning the henhouses over to the foxes to solve the problem of
theft in the night.
I've been in our local courts lately.....at least 90% of those who stand
in front of the judge in jail jumpers are there as a result of their
chemical dependency problems. I tried to get treatment for them and
found out that the local judges don't have the faintest idea of what to
do or where to send them.
We have a large mess on our hands, the result of deliberate
misinformation from first the federal government under the Reagan/Bush
era, and second from addicts defending their right to use.
This Christian Coalition sure has some very strange bedfellows indeed.
