subject: Re: Linux ready for desktop yet?

From: "Gary Britt"

True there are lots of problems with windows, but generally not in the same
way as Linux (perhaps mostly because Linux doesn't come preinstalled and
configured the way windows does). That truth however doesn't solve the
problem for the operating system not preinstalled on the hardware. That
operating system needs to be better at being installed than windows in
order to induce a switch OR MS has to punish windows users enough with
their monopoly practices to the point that the disincentives from being
tied to MS outweigh the disincentives to installing AND LEARNING the new
OS. I already know windows. I don't intend to learn a new Windows (Vista)
so at some point I WILL be learning Linux. MAC doesn't do it for me
because of the huge hardware dongle they attach to their operating system.
