In a message on Sunday 12-03-16 Kai Richter said to Holger Granholm:
Guten morgen Kai,
Here, dec. 3rd was a saturday!
HG> Actually I have even three in my office machine.
KR> How about 5,25" disks, are the available anymore?
I don't think so, except in my cupboard!
HG> thing I hated and didn't like about *nix was the case sensitivity.
KR> Well, once you get used to it, it can have advantages. Together with
KR> TAB command line completion it could make things easier.
Maybe, and to confuse others it's great.
HG> I know that a safer media is USB sticks, as long as you don't abuse
KR> Safer than floppy, yes. Sadly USB memory hasn't relialable
KR> pre-failure warnings. If the controler on the USB memory breaks then
KR> everything is gone.
The same goes for CD's and DVD's. They are also "kind of" safe, but they are
susceptible to ageing.
Printed on acid-free paper, is the safest method to preserve text info, but
it's kind of difficult (cumbersome) to use that for program files.
Just see the old writings on pergament, and writings in in church- or
law-books. They are still there after hundreds of years.
Have a nice day,
Holger
