RW>>> to check with Novell on this. I remember reading something about how
RW>>> Novell was getting slammed from all these "paper CNE's" getting into
RW>>> the workforce without a speck of experience and NOT being able to
RW>>> handle the job.
RW>> Gary,
RW>> My only question would be do these companies look at resume's
RW>> stating if the persons last job was in the network field, as a
RW>> student in a Novell school, or a burger slinger after high
RW>> school..
Speaking from experience, I have seen more than one resume with a
history of non-computer related jobs and then see the "CNE" notation.
What does that tell you. I would not hire this person as my network
engineer with any prior networking experience. But, after an interview,
I may hire him at a lesser position and give him the opportunity to
learn the ropes, so to speak.
I, personally, would sooner hire someone with 5 years of hands-on
experience than someone with no experience and a piece of paper saying
he passed a test. And, I'm sure I'm not alone with that feeling.
RW>> Also, do they judge the applicant be looks & manors, or do they
RW>> have a second technical interview.. Are they also taking
RW>> into account if the applicant came from a non Novell cert
RW>> school..
Each interviewer / reviewer, I'm sure, has his / her own critieria for
hiring any potential applicant.
RW>> I'm on my way to CNE at the moment (3 track)..
So am I. I start NetTech on Monday.
RW>> Pass'd the CNA so far, & just ace'd install & config, so I'm
RW>> interested in which way this may go.. I did install & run a
RW>> 3.11 network for 3 years at my last job btw, so if I took the
RW>> tests would I be consider'd 'PAPER CNE' ???
I passed the CNA last year but had been ACTIVELY working with networks
since Netware 286. I just figured it was a good time to put some
initials after my name. It DOES look better on the resume when you
couple those letters with some hard experience. ;)
And now that my company has offered for me to go for the CNE, I thought
it would be a great opportunity for me to add some more impressive
letters after my name.
RW>> Not to memtion, how many 'PCNE's' are working out & how many are
RW>> bombing out??
I don't know that there are any stats on this out there on this. I know
of a couple of such people but they are NOT working AS CNE's.
RW>> We always hear about problems, how many people write about
RW>> sucess's??
I'd like to hear from those who never worked on a network before, took
(and passed the CNE) and then went to work as a Network Admin /
Engineer.
