I was new when the California business happened. I bought and listened
carefully to the tapes of the national board meeting during which Acosta
was expelled, and taked with a couple of people later about what
happened. Still, I'm far from fully informed about it.
I suspect, though, that we could and should have been more deliberative.
As far as I can tell, Mr. Robert Charg-It Acosta just slunk away when
his successor as California Council president bagged and exposed him.
When our folks booted him out, he was able to take a large part of the
affiliate with him (apparently, quite a substantial majority), and cost
us big bucks to get the matter resolved in court. Whether this is true
or not, I guess we can be glad he's gone, though sorrowful about the
suffering of many people along the way.
