Hi there, Lucy... I am reading old messages this morning that I didn't get 
around to while we were having our "adventure" in Oregon and Washington this 
summer...
I used to live in Visalia... whereabouts are you?  It is a lovely area.
You don't need any kind of credentials to homeschool.. you just need to be 
dedicated enough to be committed to it.  The cost?  I don't think there is 
ny
specific cost.. but I do tend to spend a lot of money on educational 
materials... at the school store.  I know there's a nice school store on 
Mooney Blvd. in the shopping center with the sign that says, "The Works"..
unless it has moved since I was living there 4 years ago.
Advantages include being able to give your children one-on-one attention and 
being able to taylor the education to each child's interests and needs.  The 
disadvantages include not having much time to yourself, not being able to 
ork
when you're teaching, and having to develop the discipline to be consistent.
Here in California many homeschool families register as private schools to 
avoid having to homeschool through the school district.  I have chosen to go 
by the school district regulations and register... because I feel I need the 
guidance at this point.  I really like the philosophy of the homestudy 
rogram
here and the advisor, and so far am very happy I chose this route.
