JB> WASHINGTON (AFP) Two men released from the US "war on
JB> terror" prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba have appeared in a
JB> video posted on a jihadist website, the SITE monitoring
JB> service reported.
JB> One of the two former inmates, a Saudi man identified as
JB> Abu Sufyan al-Azdi al-Shahri, or prisoner number 372, has
...
JB> Al-Shiri was transferred from Guantanamo to Saudi Arabia in
JB> 2007, the US counter-terrorism official said.
Notice, he is a Saudi, and was transferred to Saudi Arabia. IOW,
that is how far you can trust the Saudis. As some of us have
been warning you for quite some time now.
Notice he is the one former prisoner any information is given
about?
JB> The Defense Department has said as many as 61 former
JB> Guantanamo detainees -- about 11 percent of 520 detainees
JB> transferred from the detention center and released -- are
JB> believed to have returned to the fight.
IOW, 89% of the detainees who were released were not a threat in
the first place?
JB> The latest case highlights the risk the new US
JB> administration faces as it moves to empty Guantanamo of its
JB> remaining 245 prisoners and close the controversial
JB> detention camp within a year.
Not near as much as the threat from the continuing value of
Gitmo to Al Qaeda recruiters. Not if the defense dept acts
intelligently in chosing who to release. And the recently
released reports show the defense dept wasn't even acting
intelligently in holding them. They pretty well don't know much
about the people they are holding.
