Hello Ruth!

Exactly. I use a lot of white, and quite a bit of black and navy.
RH> The Mettler brand is a bit heavier than SureLock or Maxi-Lock; I would
RH> say it's probably your best choice for something like pants. Overall,
    Ok. Makes sense.
RH> I think your best bet is to try it and see if you like it.
I think I'm going to try that.
RH> I started out with the adapter and one cone; it was enough to
RH> convince me to go for it for more cones.
That's probably what'll happen to me.
RH> I do some quilting but use the cotton covered polyester as a general
RH> rule. Most of what I've done has been with mixed fabrics so I use a
RH> mixed thread. If I were using all cotton, I'd use an all cotton
RH> thread. If I were to use cone thread for quilt piecing, again, I'd
RH> have to go with the Mettler. It is a bit pricier but seems to be a
RH> better grade than the others.
That's nice to know. It's helpful to have people who have already
experienced it to advise.
RH> Actually, it's a shop that sells & repairs sewing machines and
 RH> vaccuums. I think most of their business comes from repairs/tune ups;
RH> that's where I take my machines. It is good to have a working
RH> relationship with somebody like that; if you need special help, you're
RH> more apt to get it if the person knows you.
True. That's that way with a lot of things.
RH> Do you have an indicator light on your machine?
Nope. :( Not on either machine.
RH> Mine has one that works most of the time; it's a big help. I know
RH> about how much more can sew before having to replace/rewind the
 RH> bobbin.
    I wish I had one.
RH> When you're doing a big project, wind an extra bobbin or 2
RH> so you can just pop one in instead of having to take the time to wind
 RH> a new one.
I usually have two of the common colors I sew with (navy, white, black)
RH> It saves a couple of minutes and a lot of frustration,
RH> especially when time is at a premium.
    Frustration primarily.
