If one properly configures his modem and then saves the settings to the
NVRAM, there is no reason to load factory defaults into the active
profile every time he boots his comm program which is exactly what you
are suggesting by using the AT&F command. Sending AT&F2 sends the
second of four possible factory defaults, but none of these can be
changed. Every time one turns on his modem, and sends it an ATZ, this
loads what is stored in the NVRAM. If I remember correctly, when one
turns on his modem, it comes on with factory defaults already loaded
unless dip switch 10 is turned off, then NVRAM settings are loaded. If
all you want is factory defaults, then no init string should even be
needed in the comm program. I keep dip sw. 10 off, but opt to send the
ATZ just to be sure the profile I have stored gets loaded. And yes, I'm
the other message that suggested using just ATZ^M. You will find most
folks have their modem settings tweaked way beyond what comes as factory
settings so loading them via AT&F is not a good idea.
