Hi, Sondra,

 >I hope your nutritionist will allow you a piece
 >occasionally. My impression is that if something sounds particularly
 >delicious, it's probably in the forbidden category.
 SB>
SB> I could probably eat a slice just before I get in the car to take a
SB> bunch of kids over to Delaware to go sledding. All that movement in
SB> the snow would probably mean I could handle sugar.
Good. I understand it's better if one eats the sweet things as dessert
after a well-balanced meal rather than as a separate snack--sort of tends
to dilute the effect of the sugar. You might want to run the idea by
your nutritionist and see what she says since I am a rank amateur.

SB> The weatherman says it's going to snow tonight. I hope it does. I
SB> feel like we haven't had enough snow here this winter yet. It snows,
SB> but then it warms up and rains. It'll probably do that this time too.
I don't think we've had a whole lot of snow this winter, but it may seem
that way because we've had a few warmer than normal days when a lot of it
has melted. Last week it seemed like we had snow every day and it has
definitely stayed around with the colder temperatures this week. Further
north there has been a lot more snow.

SB> We never have left over fry bread. But then again we don't have a lot
SB> of left over anythings. Left overs are not a part of teener
 SB> territory.
Walking disposals, teenagers. :>
 >While they were frying, I'd make the toast--plenty of butter on it and,
 >for me, strawberry jam. We thought that was a very good breakfast, but
 >now they would be screaming about fat and cholestrol.
 SB>
SB> I think fat was less of a problem then, because people were both more
SB> active, using up the fat they ate, and they ate less fat in spite of
 SB> bacon drippings.
Yes, we were outside a lot more, especially in winter. No snowblowers
back then, so we had to shovel. We didn't have that much processed food
and fast food was unheard of.
SB> Interestingly enough, vegetarian diets can be very
SB> high in animal fats. I have a young friend (21 years old) who has a
SB> high chlorestral count. The culprit: she refuses to eat meat,
SB> poultry, or fish; so she's been eating cheese at just about every meal.
Heredity seems to play a big role, too. My mother and I both have
cholestrol levels that are low. My boss comes from a family that has
high blood pressure and high cholestrol. In fact, she's been on
medication since she was 30.
Take care,
Robin
