Replying to a message of Bob Klahn to Bob Ackley: BK>>> Radicalized by being held in internment camps for 60 years? Do BK>>> you have some reason we should believe Israel was willing to let BK>>> them back in back in 1949? BA>> Yeah, the arabs that live peacefully in Israel *now*. It BK> Those were not let back, they didn't leave. And some who BK> chose not to leave were forced to. BA>> seems to me that the 'Palestinians' moved to get out of the BA>> way of the fighting - remember that it was the *armies* of BA>> Syria, Jordan and Egypt that were attacking. They were BK> Yes, I do remember. I also remember they were not armies of BK> Palestinians. BK> Now, to try to condemn those who fled the coming battles is a BK> condemnation of Israel, even if you don't realize it. Before BK> Israel attacked Lebanon they dropped leaflets in the border BK> areas warning the Lebanese to leave. Then the Israeli Air Force BK> attacked some of those fleeing. BK> In Gaza just recently the Israelis warned the Palestinians to BK> leave the areas under attack, even though they really didn't BK> have anyplace to flee to. BK> So, do you condemn those who fled at the warnings of Israel, or BK> only those who fled at the warnings of Arab governments? BK> Condemn both or condemn none. BA>> advised by those states to move out of the way and they BA>> could move back after Israel was destroyed. Of course, BK> Which is pretty much what Israel warned the inhabitants of their BK> intended targets to do. BA>> after the fighting stopped Israel was still there; had they BA>> not engaged in hostilities I don't see any reason why they BA>> could not have moved back if they *wanted* to. Most didn't BK> You mean other than the fact that Israel would not let them? BA>> want to, and their arab brethren wouldn't let them BA>> integrate into their own societies. BK> Why would they? After all, why didn't the western world BK> integrate the Jews into their socities instead of making their BK> home in a disputed land? The surviving Eurpoean Jews didn't want to live there any more - for the obvious reason. They didn't want to migrate to the US, and their ancient ancestral homeland was nearby - relatively speaking - so they went there. Remember the Brits, who were in control of the area at the time, tried to stop the Jews from migrating from Europe to Palestine but were unsuccessful. While it's a slower process (most of that Jewish migration took place between 1945 and 1949), the same sort of migration is occurring from parts of Latin America to the US, and from parts of the Middle East to Europe. And neither the US nor the European countries seem to be able to do much about it. --- FleetStreet 1.19+* Origin: Bob's Boneyard, Emerson, Iowa (1:300/3) SEEN-BY: 10/1 3 18/200 34/999 120/228 123/500 128/2 140/1 226/0 236/150 SEEN-BY: 249/303 250/306 261/20 38 100 1381 1404 1406 1410 1418 266/1413 SEEN-BY: 280/1027 633/260 267 712/848 800/432 2222/700 2320/100 105 200 2905/0 @PATH: 300/3 14/5 140/1 261/38 633/260 267 |
