Now that is just plain weird.  Who these days even has a phoneline nevermind

That I wouldn't know.  The last POTs modem I had working (late 1990's) was an
external Motorola jobber.  I forget the model.  Always had problems with the
pci winmodems and avoided them like the plague, especially considering Linux
kernels.

I think the real question should be, does anyone care?
