Geo: There's something wrong with the ICMP handling in a router between
you and me. On both Windows and Linux, both sides request a Maximum
Segment Size (MSS) upon connect. In the middle of a stream, it suddenly
reverts to minumum MTU (68 bytes), sending one character per packet. There
are no ICMP messages from the Linux box, so it must be in the MTU / PMTU
sequence.
Is there a firewall, or is news.barkto.com naked on the internet?
I can't ping news.barkto.com from here, or I could try a manual MTU
discovery to see what gives.
[Randall, I'm on DSL - are you on DSL also? The ATM packet size could
have an effect on our problem]
