True.  They are ubiquitous enough, especially now, to provide a place
for actors to get a foothold, and get themselves seen.  And TV reaches
farther than the local stage groups...

And has mellowed quite a bit, from being the character everyone loved to
hate... now Erica seems almost loveable at times...  Of course, as you
say, she's a matriarch now... not that they are necessarily any more
easy to take than the rest of the soaps crew, actually...   (And,
truly, I only see these shows when FORCED into it because someone I am
visiting has it on, and doesn't turn it off!  Doesn't take much exposure
to keep track at all!)
