A thou of an inch is also usable if you are doing a more open radius and
you could also go finer if your lathe easily supports it. The thing is that
the steps, even at .002" will quickly go away at the 80 grit grinding
level.  The cast iron does get worn away as the grinding goes on so you are
going to have to keep a check on the ROC of the tool. Mostly a response to
a nitpick.
