That seems to be manufacturer-dependent. Back when 20-40MB was considered
a good sized 3.5" disk, I used Maxstor drives and never had one last as
long as than 3 years - and that was before I had a server running 24 x 7.
After that I switched to WD Blue drives and don't believe any of them
died, though the systems they were it became obsolete and got replaced.
On last two HDDs I had fail were the 2.5" Hitachi in the Lenovo R61i
(47,000 hours) and a Hitachi 3.5" in the house server, which runs 24 x 7,
at 49,000 hours. Both are good, seeing that the expected (guestimated)
life of these disks is 50,000 hours.
BTW, I noticed, just after buying the WD Black 500GB drive, that WD are
selling 500GB SSDs for only about 10% more than it - and the Black series
are around 20% more than the equivalent Blue, so has anybody connected
this class of SSD to a Pi 3 or 4 yet?
