Also, I think having the source code can be a mixed bag - Although it can be nice to have, if you make any customizations for your BBS, you would have to re-apply your customizations whenever you upgrade to a new version. That could get tedious, and it's possible the author could totally change the code so that you would have to re-think your customizations.
