BG> Hiya T!
Howdy Bonnie!
-> I have never played with "surround sound", but I certainly wouldn't
-> bother running subs in stereo, since at those frequencies sound is
-> essentially mono to begin with.
BG> While I would normally completely agree with that, in my studio
BG> monitor system, I do run stereo subs right now, but that is because my
BG> top speakers are -3dB at 120Hz, so I have the subs set for around an
BG> 80Hz Fc, While even at that frequency they are probably still not
BG> directional, I still run them that way in the studio.
That seems logical; I believe that the perception of stereo begins
around 100 cycles, but that could be incorrect. I have some old
Turbosound TMS-4 cabs that like the x-over to be set quite high for
the 18s in the low end horns, and I run the low end in stereo with
those (when I am forced to use those ancient beasts).
BG> The setup originally intended for a keyboard sound system for small
BG> venue live peformances would probably be setup with both subs together
BG> and the amp run in mono for live gigs, because of the couping of the
BG> cabinets and getting the additional power from bridging the amplifier.
Yes, although I prefer not to bridge, if I can help it; I feel that most
amps sound better unbridged, or run mono in parallel. I have an old Crest
300 that I simply must bridge (used for stage monitors in a small system),
but it doesn't sound as good, and I can't load it as heavily. Take care.
