I don't appreciate fido-bashing, especially right here on a fidonet echo.
Our netmail is just fine so far as I can tell. I haven't had any problems
with it. I also already have free internet email through the
fidonet/internet gate.
I also have an aol account and I don't like it. Aol is the slowest and most
aggravating online service I've ever used, and you pay for every minute of
their wait-state, beyond the initial 5 hours per month included for the
monthly fee. With that clock of theirs ticking, I feel that the waiting and
waiting and waiting that you do (waiting for their pages to display, etc) is
just a way of getting the consumer to pay more money for less service. Also,
there is no offline mail capability so the reading and writing of messages in
the message areas must be done online which, of course, takes up more time
and gives aol more money. The only thing I get from aol is files to carry on
my bbs and offer /free/ to the public. As soon as I'm done getting the files
I want, I will no longer subscribe to aol because I believe it is a rip-off.
