The DAO will shoot like a double action revolver, with a long,
heavy trigger pull for each shot. The decocker version has
the double action pull on the first shot and a light, single
action pull on the subsequent shots. When you want to put
the gun on "safe", you press the decocker (while the gun is
pointing in a safe direction -- just in case), and the gun is
back in double action mode for the next shot.
My wife has a decocker version P94 that she really likes.
(Keeps dragging me to the gun range to practice -- I guess
I can take the punishment, eh.) She picked this after
shooting many different guns side-by-side at the local
gun range that also rents and sells pistols. She liked the
trigger, feel, and performance of the P94 better than the
Glocks, H & Ks, and other double action pistols.
I shot all of the guns with her and would have made the same
choice for a double action pistol. However, I prefer a
single action and my primary handgun is a Springfield 1911
model single action pistol with at least a good trigger job
and ambidexterous safety (I shoot left handed).
She likes the decocker version DA semiauto because of the
"safety" of the double action pull on the first shot without
having to deal with a separate, manual safety while under
stress. Then after the first shot, she can follow up with
as many single-action mode shots as desired. She doesn't
care for and didn't see any advantage to having the double
action trigger pull on every shot.
I would recommend trying out the pistols you are interested
in and choosing based upon your preference from experience.
Enjoy,
Alex
