Your results on Linux aren't as bad as mine. Still, you are definitely
seeing slower performance when scaling fonts.

You don't have Seamonkey or Firefox on Windows?

I wonder if getting a different graphics card would help. Maybe the one for
this Dell box's graphics chip is especially slow.
