I am writing this on behalf of a friend with a question.
The boat in question is about 25 years old. Its a 17' Boston Whaler.
The "old" engine was a 15 yr old 90hp Merc, basic SS prop etc.
The new engine is a 2 year old (new past model) 90hp Evinrude. The boat
is easily 3 or 4 mph faster now then it was before but the hole shot is
clearly a slug compared to the Merc. The Evin also has a conventional SS
prop and in both cases top speed came at or near redline..
Is it simply the difference in age or brands or maybe the fact the Merc
was an inline and the Evi a V or is it possible there is something set up
wrong here?
If it helps, the boat used to do about 47/48 and now does around 52 (as
clocked by speedo, not radar).. Excelleration times from say 0-30 are
probably double the old ones.. From 30 up, same or maybe better..
Thanks for any info offered..
