   Hello Holger!

You can treat the various LIVE dvd's for *nix's as installs and alot of stuff
will run...

On Debian/Ubunutu/Mint/Zorin ones you can:

sudo apt-get install ddrescue

And run it from there...

Or you use something like this:

SystemResuceCD which is a live distro with a whole host of stuff for this
including ddrescue

https://www.system-rescue-cd.org/SystemRescueCd_Homepage

dd the command which ddresuce and others present a nice GUI of sort to is at
least on *buntu's installed by default. Confirmed with a couple of the recent
VM's I have setup , and I didn't install it.. and its there.
