You're right. He doesn't have to do a damn thing if he doesn't want to.
However...

If you have been paying any kind of attention to any of Joseph's tests with any
of his 3 softwares, it seems to me he's actually trying to implement some of
the above kludges, and then some. He has already added MSGID to one of those
softwares that didn't originally have it.

At least he's making an attempt to bring old abandoned software a little more
up-to-date. So when you gripe "It'll never happen", you might want to think
twice. Someone other than you, or the original developer that is now
unreachable, might take a crack at it just for the hell of it.
