Hi Steve...
About the Wah and uses....
I'll give you an idea on how I approach it... I'm sure your familiar with
the Issac Hayes tune "shaft" from the mid-70's... all of that
"Wacka-wacka-wacka" stuff..
Well, that's nice, and there is a purpose for that, but when I use mine, I
use it to enunciate the notes or chords, much the same way a human voice
phrases things.. You know that you don't speak in a monotone, unless your the
bore of the party, so approach your use of the pedal like that... Picture it
as "shaping" your note (or chords) like the human voice.. perhaps even like a
horn, trumpet, etc...
A good tune that gives a very good feel fo this is the Rolling Stones song
"Coming DOwn Again" off of the "Goat's Head Soup" album. Mick Taylor does
soem wonderful work with a wah... or course you've got Jimi, and Satch and
Vai, but basically, picture the wah as your vocal cords...
Fully depressed, you get a piercing treble tone, all the way up, it's a
bassier tone.. I generally like to approach a note from the bassier side,
and then work it down to the treble side....
It's kinda like bending a note, just a matter of feel...
