The world's first all-Eskimo Boy Scout troop was organized
Dec. 5, 1947, at Point Barrow (Alaska). Scoutmaster of the
new troop is Eskimo Private Nate Elemaun, of the Army Signal
Corps. The boys made their first scouting trip by dog sled,
using kerosene stoves for cooking. The only wood most of
them have ever seen is driftwood on the Arctic Ocean.
