The problem is you never know when you are offensive when languages differ.
From my youth I remember that if in a "conversation" with sombody who dit
not understand Dutch, the other felt offended even if I said nice things
about bim. If however you would scold at him in his own language it was
accepted.
I would probably also feel offended if we met and you would say nice things
about me in Swedish in a harsh tone.
So the words don't really matter, it is the tone and the environment where
it is said, that decides if words are offensive.
