At least around here, the birthing room at the hospital is pretty
standard now.  Labor and delivery happen in the same room, and one only
leaves if things really require intervention... in fact, some of the
rooms have a lot of stuff built in and hidden behind "closet" doors to
turn it into an operating room if necessary.
