-=> Quoting Peter Knapper to Paula Pelletier <=- Hi Peter - PP> Problems arose when I tried to run FB -a It said something about PP> putting a line into my autoexec.bat file which reads PP> SET MAXIMUS=C:\MAX\MAX.PRM which I already had there. PK> Had you rebooted (so the SET had been actioned) before PK> running FB? Is the MAX.PRM file actually in that location? The problem was that I had SET MAX as opposed to SET MAXIMUS. Such a simple thing, but I it caused enough of a problem. Anyhow, that is one more out of the way now. PP> Then I noticed something funny with the FSE. WHen I PP> would use the quoting in a reply, the moment I would PP> actually copy 4 lines, the next 4 would appear without PP> my having to use the ^C to go to the next 4 lines. PK> Yes, that change was implemented between Maximus V2 and V3. PK> Dont panic, thats the way it now works. This change PK> confused me at first too, but it actually makes sense PK> because less keystrokes are needed to quote multiple lots PK> of 4 lines........;-) That one is a pain, and I am still wondering if the module from Max 2 can be extracted and put into Max 3.1? PP> Last but not least, and I am not sure if this one has PP> to do with my modem, my INIT string or what - but I PP> managed to download the latest F-PROT from the net onto PP> my other computer, and when I went to transfer it by PP> modem to the actual BBS, I had CRC errors like you would not believe. I would suspect possible H/W PK> changes/settings the most likely cause of this. Are you PK> sure nothing has changed int his area? I found this not to be a part of Max also - it was something in the settings I had for my other mdoem that were not compatible with the one on the BBS for some reason. I fixed that one too, with the help of a good friend. It had to do with the hardware and software flow controls. PP> Not being very technically minded, and definitely not PP> knowing what all the terminology in the DOC fiels PP> means, I guess you can say that RTFM is NOT working for PP> me. All help and advice will be more than appreciated. PK> It sounds like most Maximus related things are running fine PK> (as I would expect), and yes, Maximus 3 does seem to run PK> SMOOTHER than Maximus 2 did, however that is rather PK> subjective. There are a few little things - like I never had the Kill feature made available, since I seem to have a few callers who love killing off any messages they can. When I ran the upgrade, the one place that it reappeared was in the option line after you read your own mail - Next message, yes, no, again, kill, reply? That took me a few moments to come across in the menus.ctl file, but I happened upon it only by accident. I was actually looking for a few of the supposed new feature, to see how they worked. I guess I will have to do some reading after all. PK> I hope some of this helps..........pk.
