Let me guess, you are someone that works for a company that uses
computers and are trying to make brownie points with your boss by
suggesting how you guys can evaluate some anti-virus software, and now
he has asked how to confirm contamination.
Methods can vary, but as most people with LAN's know you have to make
backups, since we were building this server from scratch with the files on
t,
we did a byte level comparison to tape and set the abort level as
100,000 file errors.
This also gave us a quick builing function because we knew the series of
files on the tape were clean, just put multiple copies out there first.
backed it up completely as 1 server with 400,000 files. Then started
contamination procedure and quit when we got 100,000 file comparison
errors.
Any file contaminated will not compare as being the same file.

I don't get it.
