KM> Hello I am new to this echo...I just picked it up yesterday on my
KM> bbs, so as to start the decision process over private schools or
KM> homeschooling. I have been reading many books in the library and have
KM> found homeschooling to be a wonderful experience for the people
KM> referred to in the books...But I can't help being a little
KM> apprehensive about it too..I live in Ohio and am wondering if there is
KM> anyone who might know what the laws are here concerning homeschholing.
KM> And did any of the parents feel a little apprehensive starting out? I
KM> am concerned that I might not be considered educated enough to
KM> properly train my children. I want to make sure to give them all the
KM> benefits this world has to offer. but I can't seem to find a school
KM> that I like. My oldest is only 2 and I have been told he needs to
KM> start preschool next year. SO I am not sure if I am worrying to soon
KM> and should just decide closer to 1st grade.

It is good that you have read alot about homeschooling. Educating yourself
helps to make the proper decision. Ist of all if you know the basics it
shouldn't be too difficult. Alot of us who homeschool are learning along
with our children. After all, we haven't gone to school for years and it
helps to jog our memory. As far as intelligence goes we as parents, have
to teach our children so many things in life that academics is only a
small portion of their learning experience. I believe just about anyone
who who has an interest in their children's welfare can homeschool. Since
you proven that yourself by taking the time, effort and responsibility
to go to the Library and read. You do what teachers do already, investigate
a subject and decide which is the best way to go. I am not saying
homeschooling
will be a piece of cake. It takes effort and a strong interest in your
children, but I believe it would be the most rewarding experience you could
do for not only yourself but your child. A two year old needs more play
type experience than a 10 year old and you are probably already doing that.
You can get info from your state board of education or a homeschool support
group in your area. I am sure someone here on the echo mite be able to give
you more insight to your state laws. Goo Luck.

... All I need is a Wave and a board to surf it on.
