This has been going on for _years_, including bugging for commercial
purposes. Meantime, in the US, PGP had been declared a munition, in
an attempt to stop people enjoying privacy.

It is distasteful, Orwellian, and frightening. There's no protest
about this because forums are being censored of debate. Like
censoring the internet (coz of the alt.sex.* forums being used as
a cover), 'phone tapping by the State is being legitimatised under
the cover of "only checking for criminal activity". Whilst trying
to ban anyone else from owning or using a scanner. Not that those
would help with GSM anyway
