Though 42 is more than a decade away - I see how such a thing could be:
concentration on one's career
holding out for just the right one
fear of emotional commitment and the loss of freedom
unintentionally intimidating men
being a little remote/ice queen syndrome
lack of trust in men in general/having been burned once badly
missed or unrecognized opportunities.
There could be lots of reasons and combinations of reasons.
