Probably a lubrication problem, or the link may be corroded. Try some
penetrating fluid at the point where the handle pivots.

There are covered cables that run from the kick panel area to/thru the
door. Could be a broken wire, as that cable is flexed everytime you open
and close the door. At the back of the radio all of the speaker and power
wires are in a connector that plugs into the radio. I don't think you'll
find a problem there unless a 'butcher' has been working on the stereo
system.
