As far as I know the only thing that word processors do that it date
dependent is get the date and time from the system clock and put them in
the document you are using. It did that quite happily.

Yes, I did it in the ROM BIOS when I rebooted.
The reason it didn't appear in the message header was that the BBS where I
uploaded the message was 10 km away, and I didn't travel over there to
change the date on the BBS machine at the same time. It looks as though the
header dates in BW messages are put in by the door when the messages are
uploaded, rather than the reader. That certainly seems to be what happened
in this case.
